What is your Honduras?

by clay on April 29, 2010

The title of this may not make much sense, but read on. It comes from a post my friend Laura wrote this morning. She and her family will be leaving soon to live in Honduras, working with orphans and bringing Christ to a remote part of that country. She wrote:

I believe God has given each of us our very own ‘Honduras.’ He desires that His children walk this earth with eyes wide open, scales removed; awake to the people in our midst; alive to the opportunities we have to deeply love. Honduras just happens to represent awakening in my life… what does God use to awaken you?

It has been awesome to watch the change in their lives from the time that we first met them (four years ago?) to now. God has truly wrapped this mission around their hearts, not just of Alex and Laura but their children as well. I am in awe of what they are about to do.

What has awakened you? What is God using to stir your passion for Him? For me it is studying and learning which in turn is giving me a great desire to teach. I want to use the knowledge that I’m pursuing to enable and equip those I come into contact with. I can’t explain how much I’m looking forward to starting up small groups again, not so I can browbeat people with big theological words (forgive me if I do), but so that we can all grow in Christ together, learning from each others lives, from our combined victories and defeats.

Do you know what it is that God has called you to do? Are you willing to have your life turned upside down by what God has given you a passion for? Alex and Laura have been and are willing to leave everything and everyone they have known to pursue God’s heart in Honduras. Are you willing to do the same for your Honduras?

Clay – You are sweet to post a link to my words. Believe it or not, I think we have known each other for 5 years or more. Wasn’t Horn Creek 4 years ago? Regardless, it seems like longer.

Love that your Honduras is your desire to teach… I know there are folks at POCF who will thrive under your teaching. And I can’t wait to see how God kindles this and takes it to levels yet unimagined.

I started to put five, but then pulled back to four. I think you are probably right though.

Thanks for your comment. Your words inspired this morning, and I wanted to share them with whatever audience I might have.

Thanks Clay for the kind words! The Ginn’s friendship is one of many that we will miss a lot.

Alex, thank you for doing what you guys are doing. We will miss you guys more than I think we are even aware yet.

I have a heart for ministry and possibly missions in the future. But I still have a long way to go before I can get there. But I am learning to get out of my comfort zone as well. And home group is such a blessing and there are AWESOME things going there!
